Posting Context Statement
The Aberdeen Research and Extension Center is located in Aberdeen and is operated by the University of Idaho College of Agricultural and Life Sciences through the Idaho Agricultural Experiment Station. The center focuses on research in plant breeding and crop production.
The center also supports close collaborative efforts with the U.S. Department of Agriculture-Agricultural Research Service, which focuses on improving potato and small grain germplasm and increasing rainbow trout production efficiency through the use of grain-based feeds. The center also supports the discovery and development of native plants for the horticulture industry.
Position Overview
This position will perform farming, irrigation, and maintenance duties in support of research related to irrigated potatoes, forage, and grain crops at the Aberdeen R&E Center under the general direction of the Farm Supervisor or other staff as designated by the Superintendent.

Position Qualifications
Required Experience
- Experience with methods used in agricultural crop production
- Experience with safety practice
- Experience in operation and maintenance of a variety of diesel and gasoline powered farm equipment
- Experience with safe use of electrical and hand operated shop tools
Required Education
Required Other
- Possess a Private Applicator's License with chemical endorsement or ability to obtain one within 6 months
- Possess a valid US driver's license and be able to meet policy requirements for driving university-owned vehicles
- Ability to work nonstandard business hours, including weekends and holidays
Additional Preferred
- Ability to work collaboratively with individuals and effectively supervise temporary and non-skilled workers
- Ability to keep complete and accurate records
- Experience with irrigation systems and general irrigated agriculture
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
- Ability to lift, carry, and/or otherwise move up to 80 pounds
- Ability to work in adverse environmental conditions
- Exposure to chemicals and related hazards
- Wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) while performing duties
