Job Description
Job title: Wildlife Rehabilitator

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Works 4-days a week on either the day shift or on the second shift based on the needs of the hospital and shift hired for.
- Oversees rehabilitation of patients, including medical rechecks and administration of all designated treatments.
- Responsible for all aspects of assisted feeding, dietary preparation, husbandry, and enrichment of outdoor, reptile, rehab-specific, and neonate rehabilitation patients under the supervision of Staff Veterinarian.
- Assist Wildlife Rehabilitation Manager with designing and implementing of enrichment programs for patients in rehabilitation.
- Assists with primary care for infant mammals and birds, including after-hours feedings as needed.
- Oversees primary care of sea turtle patients and assists veterinary staff with treatments as needed.
- Participates in daily report to Veterinarians on all patients’ rehabilitation progress and may present case rounds on all rehab patients as needed.
- Completes accurate medical records and dispositions records of rehab patients.
- Assists with primary and secondary instruction and oversight of all CROW interns, externs, and volunteers.
- Assist in initial orientation and training of rehab volunteers.
- Assists with daily cleaning and maintenance of cages, grounds, and lower floor of the hospital.
- Executes the proper running of pools, tanks and all equipment/supplies necessary for cleaning of enclosures and grounds.
- Assists in scheduled maintenance program for the outside cages, pools and tanks under the supervision of the Wildlife Rehabilitation Manager.
- Assists with habitat/environment planning and schedules maintenance of outside compounds.
- Assists with patient releases, transfers, and rescues in conjunction with Wildlife First Responder(s).
- Assists Staff Veterinarian as required with patient care and updating related patient protocols in conjunction with the Wildlife Rehabilitation Manager and Hospital Practice Manager.
- Assists with the care and routine monitoring of Visitor Education Center animals, including medical rechecks in conjunction with the Staff Veterinarian and Wildlife Rehabilitation Manager.
- Assists as needed with intensive care patient treatments.
- Assists as needed with patient admissions (answering phones, coordinating patient rescue/transport, creating medical records, and updating electronic database).
- Give presentations in the Visitor Education Center and “CROW Campus” tours as needed to assist education staff.
- Provides primary care for animal ambassadors housed at the clinic, including training of ambassador animals.
- (Second Shift): Provides directly or supervises students and volunteers as needed to provide care for patients, particularly after 5 pm. Assists in training students in all aspects of patient care and hospital protocols.
- (Second Shift): Carries the inside-line cell phone after 5 pm and triages after-hours intakes, consulting with supervising veterinarian as needed.
- (Second Shift): Assist CVT’s with entering lab work results into medical records database.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
- Associate or bachelor’s degree and a minimum of three years’ related experience.
- Extensive wildlife rehabilitation skills. Preference will be given to applicants with sea turtle experience.
- Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Knowledge of office equipment and software systems including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Must be able to work efficiently, accurately, and independently.
- Must be team player with positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service.
- Must be able to work cooperatively with co-workers, volunteers, and the public.
- Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
Physical requirements:
- Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
- Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
- Required to stand, walk and may have to climb and/or balance. Must frequently lift and/or move up to 35 pounds and be able to work outdoors in inclement weather.
