Job Overview: The Doctor Assistant collaborates with the Emergency Room Veterinarians and the ICU Criticalist by handling administrative tasks, maintaining communication with clients, and coordinating with various departments to ensure smooth patient flow.

- Gather patient history by engaging with clients and documenting it into the patient record
- Attach necessary records, images, diagnostic results, and other relevant documents to the patient file
- Dispense medications as directed by the veterinarian
- Track and assist in completing diagnostic processes
- Prepare cost estimates for diagnostics, outpatient treatments, procedures, and hospitalizations, and review them with pet owners
- Coordinate patient treatments, including surgeries and ultrasounds, with other departments
- Locate and room clients for appointments
- Follow up with clients as needed
- Ensure that client consent forms and estimates are signed when required
- Assist in delivering high-quality, compassionate care for both clients and patients
- Guide clients through the euthanasia process, including assisting with paperwork and aftercare procedures
- Approve invoices and review discharge information with clients
Skills and Competencies
- Understanding of veterinary practices and safety protocols
- Proficient in using veterinary computer systems for data entry, including charges and patient information
- Familiarity with general cleaning and sanitation practices, including isolation protocols for contagious diseases
- Strong ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, critical care setting
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Capacity to thrive in high-pressure situations, managing urgency with accuracy, organization, and adaptability
- Flexibility to work varied hours, including shifts on holidays or on-call duties
- Knowledge of animal behavior and safe restraint techniques

- Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-moving environment, maintaining focus on details

Qualifications:
- Must have strong listening, communication, and problem-solving abilities
- Basic computer skills, including proficiency with Google Workspace and standard office applications
- Previous experience in critical or emergency animal care (preferred but not required)

- Must be able to:
- Stand for up to 60% of a 12-hour shift
- Walk up to 50% of a 12-hour shift

- Occasionally climb and twist
- Perform repetitive hand movements for tasks such as grasping and fine manipulation
- Utilize all sensory skills (speech, vision, smell, touch, hearing), corrected to near-normal levels
