Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Veterinary Assistant to join our veterinary team. The ideal candidate will support veterinarians and veterinary technicians in providing exceptional animal care and client service. This role offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic environment, assisting with a variety of animal health procedures, patient care, and clinic operations. Duties
- Assist with animal restraint during examinations, treatments, and procedures to ensure safety for both animals and staff
- Administer medications and injections accurately following veterinary instructions
- Support laboratory procedures including sample collection and processing
- Maintain cleanliness and sterilization of equipment using aseptic techniques
- Help with animal husbandry tasks such as feeding, bathing, grooming, and monitoring health status
- Handle various species including dogs, cats, and equines, demonstrating animal handling expertise
- Assist with pet care activities including feeding, walking, and providing comfort to hospitalized animals
- Support front desk operations by scheduling appointments, managing patient records, and communicating with clients
- Perform basic laboratory tests and record keeping related to animal health diagnostics
- Assist veterinary staff during critical care situations involving emergency procedures or intensive animal treatment
Experience
- Prior kennel experience or pet care background preferred
- Veterinary clinic or veterinary assistant experience highly desirable
- Knowledge of veterinary terminology, animal anatomy, and physiology necessary for effective support roles
- Experience with animal restraint techniques, medication administration, and laboratory procedures preferred
- Equine experience or dog handling skills are a plus but not required
- Familiarity with aseptic techniques and laboratory protocols is advantageous
- Previous front desk or client communication experience is beneficial for supporting clinic operations
