Job Description: Our client is seeking an experienced veterinary surgeon to join a dedicated out-of-hours service within a well-resourced hospital environment where emergency and critical care standards are central to daily practice. This role is suited to a clinician who enjoys autonomy overnight while remaining supported by skilled nursing colleagues and established referral pathways.
The position offers consistent exposure to complex emergency presentations, inpatient management, and surgical decision-making, allowing the successful candidate to fully engage their clinical expertise. A structured rota provides extended time away from work, supporting recovery between shifts while maintaining continuity of patient care.
In this position, your responsibilities will include:
- Managing emergency consultations and triaging cases during overnight hours
- Providing surgical intervention for urgent procedures as required
- Overseeing and reassessing hospitalised inpatients throughout the shift
- Collaborating closely with overnight nursing support to deliver seamless care
- Maintaining clear clinical records and handovers for daytime teams
Qualifications Needed:
- RCVS registration with experience in small animal practice
- Confidence handling emergency and critical care cases independently
- Strong surgical capability for commonly encountered OOH procedures
- Comfort working nights within a structured rota system
