COMPANY DESCRIPTION:
Our client is a leading South African meat wholesaler supplying meat and other food products to sectors of the hotel, restaurant and hospitality industries. They are looking for a Warehouse Manager to join their Cape Town team.
JOB DESCRIPTION / PURPOSE:
The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, excellent organizational abilities, and a thorough understanding of stock control processes. This role requires someone who can effectively manage a team, optimize warehouse operations, and ensure accurate inventory management.
MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervise the packing of products and stock in the freezers.
- Operating the forklift.
- Loading and offloading trucks as required.
- Loading waste into waste containers for disposal.
- Maintain workflow by motivating stackers and production stock pickers to work fast and correctly.
- Check that stackers and production stock pickers are at work and report absenteeism timeously to Section manager.
- Ensure that stackers, production stock pickers and you are wearing clean undamaged protective clothing as per company policy.
- Assist the Section managers in planning the picking of stock for daily production or deliveries.
- Assist the Section managers in planning the stacking of incoming stock and products in progress in the freezers daily.
- Report low stock levels to section manager on a regular basis.
- Communicate with Section managers, production stock controller and Final QC points about stock needed.
- Stack completed, work in progress orders and incoming stock neatly in the blast or holding freezer.
- Ensure product segregation i.e. stack products per line item and or animal species.
- Ensure that all products and pallets are clearly marked.
- Ensure that all individual products are identified with a lot or batch number when stored.
- Ensure stock rotation when selecting products from the freezers – First in First out.
- Pack and plan stock packing in such a manner that old stock can be used before new stock.
- Ensure that the stackers and production stock pickers adhere to your instructions and perform their duties as per their job descriptions.
- Ensure controlled entrance by staff to both freezers.
- Ensure products are checked for deviations from quality standards such as labels, lot or batch numbers and packaging while stacking.
- Ensure good housekeeping practices in the blast and holding freezers.
- Implement and maintain measures to reduce wastage of and damage to stock being stored in the blast and holding freezers.
- Ensure that temperature controls for the blast and holding freezers and all products stored are adhered to.
- Train new personnel in all stacking, storage and packing actions.
QUALITY, FOOD SAFETY AND HEALTH & SAFETY
- Manage, maintain and enforce food safety procedures and requirements in the blast and holding freezers and for the stackers and the production stock pickers.
- Manage, maintain and enforce quality policies, procedures and requirements in the blast and holding freezers and for all products in this areas.
- Manage, maintain and enforce Health & Safety legal requirements plus company procedures in the blast and holding freezers.
- Ensure that all food safety and quality documents are completed timeously.
EQUIPMENT
- Ensure that all equipment and utensils in your area are clean and in good working order.
- Assist the Section manager – Band saws, mincing and sausages and freezers with preventative and planned maintenance of the blast and holding freezer areas.
- Ensure that the forklift is operating properly.
- Report faulty machinery as per maintenance procedure to the section manager
GENERAL
- Attend weekly meetings with Section Supervisors.
- Attend weekly management planning meeting with Logistics Manager.
- Identify and resolve any stock shortages or possible.
- Ensure that areas under your control or allocated to you are clean, neat and tidy always.
- Ensure that the areas under your control are left in a clean and neat condition at the end of every working day.
- Any shortfalls in products, orders or pallets coming through to your freezers to be reported to the Logistics Manager immediately.
- Minimize damage by controlling stacking and storing actions daily.
- No products to be stacked without correct labelling and marked paperwork in place.
- Ensure that all goods and completed orders are stacked neatly and on time.
- Ensure that quality standards are maintained.
- Assist with month end stock takes in your area of control
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Grade 12 / Matric
- Relevant tertiary qualifications (Warehouse Management, Inventory Management, etc.)
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Previous experience in a supervisory role within a warehouse or stock control environment
- Strong understanding of stock control principles and inventory management processes
- Excellent leadership and communication skills
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and solve problems effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Attention to detail and accuracy in record-keeping and reporting
- Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices in warehouse operations
- Proficiency in using warehouse management systems and related software
