Our client is seeking a Lead Associate Veterinarian to join a well-equipped companion animal hospital located in Houston, Texas. This full-time position combines clinical veterinary practice with leadership responsibilities, offering the opportunity to support a veterinary team while delivering high-quality patient care.
The practice provides a wide range of small animal services including preventative medicine, diagnostics, dentistry, surgery and urgent care. The hospital features modern diagnostic technology such as digital radiography, dental imaging, ultrasound and in-house laboratory equipment. With multiple surgical suites and dedicated treatment areas, the clinical team is able to manage a broad spectrum of medical and surgical cases.
This role would suit a veterinarian who enjoys both hands-on clinical work and guiding colleagues through mentorship, collaboration and the development of strong clinical standards within the hospital.
Responsibilities
Conduct thorough patient examinations and diagnostic work-ups for companion animal cases
Diagnose medical conditions and develop tailored treatment plans for patients
Perform routine soft tissue surgical procedures and dental treatments
Interpret diagnostic imaging and laboratory results to guide clinical decisions
Maintain detailed and accurate medical records for consultations, diagnostics and treatments
Provide clear communication to pet owners regarding treatment options and preventative care
Mentor veterinary colleagues and support staff to promote clinical growth and teamwork
Contribute to the development and implementation of hospital clinical protocols
Support daily hospital operations and participate in team discussions and case reviews
Qualifications Needed
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM or equivalent) from an accredited veterinary institution
Eligibility for veterinary licensure in the state of Texas
Experience practising small animal medicine and surgery in a clinical setting
Confidence managing routine and urgent care cases independently
Demonstrated leadership or mentoring ability within a veterinary team
Strong diagnostic, clinical reasoning and decision-making skills
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with both clients and colleagues
Commitment to maintaining high standards of veterinary medicine and professional development
