Prins USA - PLC / Controls Sales Engineer
Prins USA is seeking a motivated and technically capable
PLC / Controls Sales Engineer to support the design, programming, troubleshooting, and integration of automation systems for horticultural projects across North America.
This role will operate under Prins USA while also supporting projects under Green V USA, helping deliver both single-scope and multi-scope systems integration projects within the horticultural industry. The position is based in Stevensburg, Virginia, with travel required to support project implementation, commissioning, and customer relationships.
The successful candidate will work closely with engineering teams, project managers, and clients to design and support automation systems that integrate irrigation, climate control, energy systems, and greenhouse infrastructure.
Training will be provided by our Dutch sister company
HT Verboom, giving the candidate exposure to advanced Dutch horticultural automation design philosophies, while applying practical American-based solutions and logic to meet the needs of local growers and project requirements.

Key Responsibilities
PLC Programming & Automation
- Program, configure, and troubleshoot PLC-based control systems used in greenhouse and horticultural operations.
- Support integration of systems including irrigation, fertigation, climate control, water treatment, and energy systems.
- Modify and optimize PLC programs for system performance and customer requirements.
- Provide remote and on-site troubleshooting of automation and controls systems.
Technical Engineering Support
- Interpret and work with electrical drawings, wiring diagrams, and control schematics.
- Assist with system design and layout during project development.
- Work with project teams to ensure proper implementation and commissioning of automation systems.
- Provide technical input during the sales process to ensure correct system specification.
Customer Support & Relationship Building
- Serve as a technical resource for customers during project development, installation, and post-installation support.
- Build strong working relationships with greenhouse operators, growers, and project stakeholders.
- Support training of clients and operators on automation systems.
Project Support
- Assist with commissioning and startup of automation systems on project sites.
- Collaborate with internal engineering teams and external partners to deliver integrated system solutions.
- Support both single-scope equipment projects and larger multi-scope turnkey projects.
Systems Integration
- Help advance the company’s goal of becoming a systems integrator within the horticultural industry.
- Assist in coordinating automation between irrigation, climate, energy, and other greenhouse systems.
- Support development of standardized automation solutions for North American projects.
Qualifications
Required
- Experience with PLC programming and troubleshooting.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and control schematics.
- Strong technical problem-solving skills.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently while contributing to a team environment.
- Willingness to travel for project commissioning and client support.
Preferred
- Experience working with greenhouse or horticultural automation systems.
- Knowledge of industrial automation, irrigation systems, or environmental control systems.
- Experience with systems integration or multi-system project environments.
- Field service or commissioning experience.
