Join Our Team as a Facility Assistant – Animal Management Facility

About the role:

As a Facility Assistant, you’ll play a vital role in the day-to-day operations of the Tweed Shire Council Animal Management Facility. Reporting to the Facility Officer, you’ll be responsible for:

Observing and reporting animal health and behaviour.
Administering medication and providing basic first aid under veterinary guidance.
Cleaning kennels, catteries, and livestock areas to maintain hygiene and meet husbandry standards.
Assisting with facility presentation and laundry duties.
Updating records in Council systems and external databases such as the Companion Animal Register (CAR).
Providing respectful and helpful customer service, including processing payments.
Handling sensitive situations with tact and professionalism.

This role requires a practical understanding of animal management facilities and associated tasks, including euthanasia.

We are seeking:

Certificate II in Animal Care Services (or equivalent) and experience handling companion animals and livestock in commercial or regulatory settings.
Ability to manage anxious, aggressive, or fearful animals; knowledge of animal husbandry, disease prevention, and breed-specific behaviours.
Strong customer service skills, especially in sensitive situations, with accurate record-keeping and reporting.
Proficiency in basic computer software and Council systems.

This position is based in Murwillumbah and can be directed to work from any Council work site.
