Mad Capital is hiring a Director of Credit to join our team working remotely. In this role, you will use your strong agricultural background to lead underwriting and credit risk management across Mad Capital’s lending platform. You will evaluate and structure a wide range of loan opportunities, from straightforward $250K retail loans to complex $10M middle-market loans while building robust multi-year financial models.

Beyond underwriting, you will refine and scale Mad Capital’s credit processes, incorporating new technologies, automation, and data sources to strengthen decision-making and risk oversight. You will work closely with our investment, operations, and finance teams to ensure loans are originated and closed, serviced, and managed with integrity and precision.

We are a boutique private credit firm focused on providing financing solutions to the next generation of U.S. agriculture. We manage specialized credit funds serving organic and transitioning row crop producers across the Midwest and Great Plains, regenerative livestock operations in the Mountain West and Southwest, and organic processing and storage infrastructure nationwide. Our approach combines disciplined underwriting with deep sector expertise to deliver capital that supports both borrower success and strong investor outcomes.

We offer competitive compensation of $120,000 - $150,000 based on experience, equity stock options, fully covered employee health insurance and 50% for dependents, dental and vision, 401(k) with employer match, paid time off, parental leave, health and wellness budget, and more.

What you will be doing:

Underwriting Agricultural Loans

Underwrite agricultural loans, ensuring disciplined, accurate, and timely assessments.
Collect, verify, and analyze borrower financial data, including balance sheets, tax returns, and cash flow statements. We do not scorecard loans; we fully underwrite each transaction.
Develop credit analyses, identify risks and mitigants, and recommend structures aligned with borrower needs and portfolio strategy.
Present underwriting recommendations to internal committees and contribute to credit approval decisions.

Loan Coordination

Collaborate with sales and portfolio management teams throughout the application and approval process.
Provide guidance on credit conditions and requirements, and ensure clear communication across internal stakeholders and with borrowers.

Team & Credit Platform Growth

Refine Mad Capital’s credit assessment framework to ensure efficiency, consistency, and scalability. Develop playbooks and best practices for underwriting and borrower engagement.
Integrate new technologies, automation, and data sources to strengthen underwriting and risk management.
Contribute to the long-term strategy of Mad Capital by shaping the firm’s credit culture and lending practices.

This job is for you if you have:

7+ years of experience in agricultural lending.
Strong competency in complex Excel modeling.
Demonstrated ability to underwrite at scale.
Expertise in loan documentation, structuring, credit analysis, and servicing.
Deep commitment to disciplined credit practices and long-term portfolio health.
