Legacy Farmer is a growing platform dedicated to helping family farms achieve
financial mastery, drive constant growth, and build sustainable businesses that can be passed on to future generations. Our flagship product,
Farmer Metrics, is decision-making software (not traditional accounting software) that delivers accurate, real-time financial insights, empowering farmers to make confident decisions and maintain control over their operations.
We are seeking an experienced, world-class
Chief Technology Officer (CTO) to join our leadership team. This is a pivotal role for someone passionate about agtech, financial tools for agriculture, and building scalable software that directly impacts family farms. You will lead our engineering efforts, own the technical vision for Farmer Metrics, scale the product, and build a high-performing development team.
About the Role
As CTO, you will report directly to the CEO/founders and collaborate closely with product, operations, and customer success teams. You will be responsible for the full technology stack behind Farmer Metrics and any future Legacy Farmer products, ensuring our software is reliable, secure, user-friendly for non-technical farmers, and capable of handling complex agricultural financial data (e.g., cash flow forecasting, margin analysis, real-time metrics).
Key Responsibilities
- Define and execute the technical strategy and roadmap for Farmer Metrics and Legacy Farmer's broader platform, aligning technology with business goals of financial empowerment for family farms
- Lead the design, development, scaling, and maintenance of our SaaS/web/mobile application(s), including backend systems, data pipelines, real-time analytics, and user interfaces tailored to agricultural users
- Build, mentor, and grow a world-class engineering team (currently small/growing) - hire top talent, foster a culture of ownership, collaboration, and rapid iteration
- Oversee architecture decisions, technology choices, security, compliance (e.g., data privacy for financial info), performance, and reliability to support growth in users and data volume
- Drive innovation in agtech/fintech features - such as advanced financial modeling, integrations with farm management tools, APIs for third-party data (e.g., commodity prices, weather, accounting systems), and AI/ML opportunities for predictive insights
- Partner with product and go-to-market teams to prioritize features, ensure high-quality delivery, and achieve fast release cycles
- Manage technical debt, infrastructure (cloud-based, likely AWS/GCP/etc.), DevOps practices, and monitoring to maintain uptime and scalability
- Stay ahead of trends in agtech, SaaS, financial software, and emerging technologies relevant to farming (e.g., IoT integration, data visualization for rural users)
- Champion best practices in software engineering, code quality, testing, and security
Qualifications & Experience
- 10+ years of progressive experience in software engineering and leadership, with at least 5 years in senior technical leadership roles (e.g., CTO, VP Engineering, Head of Engineering)
- Proven track record of building and scaling SaaS platforms from early-stage to growth-stage, ideally in fintech, financial management tools, or agriculture/agtech domains
- Deep expertise in modern full-stack development (e.g., JavaScript/TypeScript ecosystems, React/Next.js for frontend, Node.js/Python/Ruby for backend, cloud-native architectures)
- Experience with data-intensive applications - real-time analytics, financial calculations, secure data handling, databases (SQL/NoSQL), and ETL processes
- Strong understanding of building intuitive software for non-technical users (farmers often manage complex operations but may not be tech-savvy)
- Demonstrated ability to hire, lead, and retain engineering talent in a remote/hybrid environment
- Experience with agile methodologies, CI/CD, cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure), and security/compliance standards
- Bonus: Background in agriculture, farming operations, or rural business tools; experience with financial modeling or farm-specific metrics; familiarity with integrations (e.g., QuickBooks, farm accounting software)
