Port St. John Veterinary Hospital is seeking a
Veterinary Hospital Manager to lead daily hospital operations, support team development, and partner with our Medical Director to drive a positive, efficient, and patient-focused hospital environment.
This role is ideal for a
leader with veterinary experience who enjoys mentoring teams, maintaining operational structure, and contributing to hospital growth.
This position is a
70/30 blended role:
- 70% hospital leadership and operations
- 30% hands-on support assisting the medical team in a Veterinary Assistant/Technician capacity
This structure allows the manager to stay connected to patient care while leading the hospital team and supporting workflow during busy periods
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Financial Leadership: Monitor hospital performance, manage budgets, oversee payroll and financial operations, and drive business growth through data-informed decisions.
- Operational Oversight: Ensure efficient workflow, maintain regulatory compliance (OSHA, DEA, VMB), manage equipment and inventory, and implement hospital policies and procedures.
- Strategic Direction: Collaborate with leadership to develop and execute long-term goals, expand services, and support referral and business partnerships.
- Project & Facility Management: Lead day-to-day operations, scheduling, and maintenance while aligning administrative functions with overall hospital objectives.
- Client & Community Engagement: Oversee marketing strategies, resolve client concerns, enhance client experience, and foster retention and growth.
- Team Leadership: Manage and support department leads, oversee hiring and development, maintain staffing levels, and promote a positive, inclusive workplace culture.
- Clinical Support (30% of role)
- Assist the medical team with patient restraint, treatment support, and basic technical tasks as needed
- Prepare patients and treatment areas for examinations, procedures, and surgery
- Support diagnostic procedures such as laboratory sample collection, radiographs, and basic in-hospital testing
- Monitor patient comfort and safety during treatments and recovery as directed by the veterinary team
- Help maintain treatment areas, equipment, and medical supplies to ensure efficient workflow
Schedule, benefits and compensation**:
This is a full-time, salaried position and schedule flexibility is required based on business needs.
- Compensation: $55,000-65,000 annual base salary*
- Bi-annual bonus opportunities: Based on hospital performance
- Hiring bonus package: Up to $2000 based on experience and credentials

Your Qualifications:
- Veterinary experience required
- Strong technical background (CVT or Lead Tech experience highly preferred)
- 1+ years of management or leadership experience preferred (open to developing leaders)
- Experience in team training, mentorship, or supervision
- Excellent communication skills with a collaborative, team-first leadership style
- Positive, outgoing personality with strong interpersonal skills
- Comfortable working both administratively and hands-on with the team
- Budget/P&L experience is a plus, but not required
- Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
- Self-motivated with a proactive, problem-solving approach
