At the Houston SPCA, compassion and excellence drive everything we do. As our next Companion Animal Care Supervisor, you’ll lead a dedicated team responsible for the daily care, enrichment, and well‑being of animals who rely on us for safety and a second chance.
In this hands-on leadership role, you’ll guide a team of 20+ animal care professionals, shaping their performance, teamwork, and skill development. You’ll champion best‑in‑class animal care practices, maintain high standards of cleanliness and organization, and ensure every animal receives the attention, respect, and support they deserve.

Lead with purpose
- Provide daily supervision, coaching, and direction to the animal care team.
- Build a collaborative, supportive environment that empowers staff to deliver exceptional care and service.
Champion high‑quality animal care
- Oversee daily care routines including feeding, hydration, sanitation, enrichment, and health monitoring.
- Ensure all care protocols are followed consistently and safely.
- Partner with veterinarians and medical teams to address animal health and behavioral needs.
Set the bar for operational excellence
- Maintain accurate records, inventories, and team scheduling.
- Ensure public-facing spaces and animal habitats meet Houston SPCA’s cleanliness and safety standards.
- Respond to animal emergencies with calm, informed decision-making.
Grow people and programs
- Train and onboard new staff and support ongoing skill development of the care team.
- Collaborate with volunteer program staff to integrate trained volunteers into daily routines.
- Support adoption and outreach initiatives that help animals find loving homes.
You are a compassionate, energetic leader who believes in high standards and leading by example. You bring:
- Experience supervising or coaching teams—ideally in animal care, veterinary, or shelter environments.
- Strong knowledge of animal behavior and welfare best practices.
- Excellent communication, organization, and multitasking skills.
- Comfort working indoors/outdoors, handling animals of various temperaments, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
- A passion for helping animals and the people who love them.
