Veterinary Hospitals Association is a non-profit organization that has been supporting the needs of veterinary clinic members in the Midwest for over 35 years. We are looking for a new Cremation Associate to join our growing team!
VHA provides its members with dignified, reliable cremation services for their clients. As such, Cremation Associates support our members patients in the final steps of their life’s journey. Cremation Associates are responsible for providing an honorable, clean, reliable, accurate, and above all respectful method of handling deceased pets.
Currently, we are hiring for 1st shift and the hours are Monday - Friday from 7:30am-3:00pm and 2nd shift Monday-Friday 2:00pm-10:30pm. The hours for this position will be high part-time or full-time. We operate all day and depending on scheduling needs our Associates may need to work late nights or early mornings.
The perfect Cremation Associate can:
- Read tags and paperwork, whether handwritten or typed.
- Write words and numbers legibly and accurately.
- Possess effective interpersonal and communication skills to interact and build effective, cooperative working relationships with coworkers.
- Mentally and emotionally handle the task of cremating deceased animals.
- Pay close attention to detail; able to organize and accurately match animals and related documentation throughout the entire process.
- Understand and adhere to safety requirements, especially relating to:
- Safe lifting protocols,
- Wearing safety equipment such as gloves, sleeves, and hearing protection,
- And other activities relating to working around cremation furnaces.
Cremation Associates must be able to:
- Bend at the waist, stretching and reaching to lean into cremation machines to maneuver animals in and out of machines as well as out of trucks and into the building repeatedly during the day.
- Tolerate higher than normal temperatures in the cremation area (up to 150*F), working in cremation ovens reaching 1,750*F and averaging 1,400-1,500*F.
- Have manual dexterity and mechanical abilities to perform cremations, maintain cremation and other equipment, use computers, grinders, etc. as well as performing routine maintenance to building, vehicles, and property.
- Be comfortable with heights, climbing stepstools, ladders, and the WAVE as needed.
- Multitask, or work on several cremation machines and related activities simultaneously.
- Effectively communicate with fellow employees and work cooperatively with team in overlapping responsibilities.
- Display flexibility to meet the changing workload demands and priorities of the department.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- Ability to pass drug screening
