Whether it’s enabling new subscription models or building internal tools that streamline the purchasing workflow, our mission is to make buying seamless, scalable, and smarter.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nWe are looking for a Senior Backend Developer to help us build the foundation that supports tools and subscription capabilities for a wide range of teams across Loblaw Digital.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nWhat You’ll Do\r\n\r\n\r\n\tAs a Senior Backend Developer on the Buy - Tools & Subscription team, you will\r\n\tDesign, develop, and maintain robust backend services using Java, Spring Boot, Kotlin and SQL\r\n\tBuild scalable subscription management systems, backend APIs, and internal tooling that enable product teams to launch and optimize purchase experiences\r\n\tUse Google Cloud Platform to build cloud-native applications and leverage modern infrastructure\r\n\tChampion best practices for secure coding, CI/CD, and automated testing, along with integrated tools like Veracode for security scanning and compliance.\r\n\tParticipate in architecture discussions, planning sessions, and code reviews with cross-functional teams\r\n\tDrive improvements in developer tooling and operational efficiency through automation and internal platform enhancements\r\n\tMentor junior developers and contribute to the technical growth of the team\r\n\tTake ownership of systems in production, including monitoring, observability, and performance tuning\r\n\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nMinimum Qualifications\r\n\r\n\r\n\t5+ years of experience in backend development with Java/ Spring boot and SQL technologies.\r\n\tProven experience designing RESTful APIs and backend services at scale\r\n\tExperience in design and implement event-driven systems using technologies like Google Cloud Pub/Sub to enable scalable and decoupled backend services\r\n\tStrong understanding of cloud infrastructure, preferably with Google Cloud Platform\r\n\tHands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines\r\n\tSolid understanding of security practices, with experience using tools like Veracode, SAST, or DAST\r\n\tExperience working in agile environments with cross-functional teams\r\n\tPassion for clean code, testing, and automation\r\n\tStrong communication skills and the ability to mentor junior developers\r\n\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nPreferred Qualifications\r\n\r\n\r\n\tDegree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.\r\n\tExperience building subscription systems (billing, trials, entitlements) or similar SaaS functionality.\r\n\tFamiliarity with event-driven architectures, message queues, and async workflows.\r\n\tExposure to Kubernetes, Docker, and modern DevOps practices\r\n\tBackground in performance tuning, system monitoring, and observability\r\n\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nHow you’ll succeed\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nAt Loblaw Digital, we seek great people to continually strengthen our culture.
